Knowing Me, Knowing You

CSV Make a Difference Day, 28 October 2006

Together with BBC Radio Oxford, the Oxford Muse has organised a day-long portraiting event, entitled 'Knowing Me, Knowing You', to coincide with CSV Make a Difference Day. Listeners to BBC Oxford were invited to the Randolph Hotel and the Ashmolean Museum to have their portraits made by volunteers.

Fifty BBC volunteers, trained by the Oxford Muse, each met and conversed with a member of the community in the Randolph Hotel. Using a range of questions suggested by the Muse, our volunteers took their conversations beyond small talk, steering them instead towards what each of their portrait subjects thought to be the essence of their life. These conversations were recorded, and are now being transcribed and edited by our volunteers. Once finished, they will be published on the BBC Oxford online. For some examples of portraits previously made by the Muse, please visit our Portrait Database.

Over in the Ashmolean Museum, not only did the BBC and the Muse film video portraits, but we also held a Coffee Conversation event in the Ashmolean Cafe, and the Oxford Gospel Choir held two recitals on the steps of the Museum. Five befriending charities were also in attendance, as were the lovely ladies of Lush, who provided free hand massages to all who attended the event.

For more information, please visit BBC Oxford's article about the event.
